I'll be fishing the special regulations stretch.

Anyone out there fished it recently?

Would be most appreciative of any help you might offer as to fly patterns and tactics.

When I fished Sage graphite fly rods, the length of the rod and distance of my cast dictated whether I used a double taper, or weight forward fly line. Short
rods - 8 feet and under - short or roll casts, double taper lines. Long rods - 8 feet or more, plus casts of 35 feet or longer, weight forward. Then I got
back into cane and several builders plus a dealer told me more than once to fish double taper lines on bamboo. Thus since my bamboo rebirth I've lined up
all my rods with...

Thinking I'll likely do a bit more bass fishing next year. I don't warmwater fish a lot and mostly use 4 or 5/6 weights for bass and bream mixed and
smallish bugs. I want to add a 7/8wt to the mix to throw some larger bugs.... I have cast a Payne "Canadian Canoe" taper so far and liked it.
What are your favorite 7 or 8 weight tapers? I love my 9660 (mine is a 6wt) but would like an 8 or 8 1/2 for this new rod.

I recently received some great advice about Orvis rods and acquired an 8' Battenkill rod in 2/2 version that weighs 4 and 3/8 oz. The rod is
recommended for an HCH (7-weight) line and it casts nicely with a DT-7 Cortland Classic Peach. I also have a DT-6 Cortland Sylk that I hope will work
nicely.
