This board is for discussing the repair and restoration of bamboo fly rods, makers discussion and construction techniques relating to same and to tapers.
Examples would be different techniques or methods used by restorationists and makers. Tapers given here should come from your own developed tapers and tapers
from makers who have had those tapers in print or are no longer alive. Please do not ask for tapers from makers who are active unless that maker is posting
their taper for use. Thanks.

On a whim, I calculated the % change in taper from station to station on a PHY Para 16 taper posted to RodDna by Ron Barch (I trust his measurements 100%).
It's obvious that Young thickened up his tip section, which is what he is known for, but the rest of the rod, past 20 inches, had me scratching my head.
Doesn't seem to be any correlation from station to station whatsoever. Any comments???

A few years back I bought a "custom bamboo rod" from an auction site. Its a beautifully finished 7 1/2 footer trimmed in red . Very nice to look
at, but visual inspection judging by the girth of the taper suggests the rod was cut down from an 8 1/2 or 9 footer. But yet the tapering from the butt through
the tip is very consistent. All sections are the same length. How is this reduction accomplished?<img src="http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/ohwell.gif"...

Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine fishing a good bamboo rod without some quality snakes.

Just wondering what the physical dynamics are that make the snakes the best choice?
