I am off to the Gander River in Newfoundland in few weeks where the salmon run is mostly of grilse - the one year at sea version of the atlantic salmon. A
typical grilse is in the 4 - 5lb range. I am thinking an 8'6" 7wt would be the ideal rod - given the need to put out some line and the chance of
catching the real thing in the 8-12lb range. Fishing is mostly wet fly with some floating deer hair bugs (and the occasional White Wulff) if the conditions
are right

I just finished building my first bamboo rod. I build a 7'2 5wt. Driggs. I am now looking to make one that would be a good streamer/mousing/big bug/hex

to start on my next rod!!! I made my first rod with Ron Barch and am in the market for acquiring all of the needed tools... Any suggestions there would be

sections, which is very intriguing. The butt sections are the shortest sections on his tapers. He had to have a logical and deliberate reason for doing so
and in reading the Marinaro book by Bill Harms and Tom Whittle. I did not catch the reason why this is. I am sure someone out there knows why and maybe I
