Backing?

I have a sad admission to make---I've never gotten anywhere near my backing in the trout fishing (all I do for now) I do. Even with some of the larger trout I've caught (decent sized but not the behemoth recently shown in another thread) I don't see HOW I COULD get to the backing. I was trying to keep the fish from getting to cover or fast water. If I had let out enough slack to get to the backing the fish would have been three pools and 50 boulders away. As a winter project, I am considering building a pair of wall-mounted display cases, on two sides of a bay window, in a family room with wood-paneling. The dimension for each should be about 58" wide and height from 36" to 42". Would appreciate suggestions on

(1) depth for such a display case,

(2) what kind of backing, mounting brackets, etc., best for displaying bamboo rods,

Freestone Trout Nets?

Just picked up a really nice trout net that is made by a company called Freestone. The quality is excellent and was just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the company. I did an Internet search and came up with nothing. Would love to know more about the Freestone net co. such as where the net was made and who used to distribute them.

Looking for one that introduces a fly much like the Horner Deer Hair or Humpy.

Your only reward for loaning me the catalog, if you have one with subject fly, is a complementary pb copy of the
Howells book when it comes out.

Fly has to do with the section on Howells friend, Jack Horner. He invented the Deer Hair and a series of variations
followed.

After much deliberation, and to the disgust of my wife, I have decided to grow a handlebar moustache. I am hoping for something 'Daliesque' in proportions. Just wondering if anyone has any helpful advice regarding waxes which are strong enough for the job. Also which colours to avoid as I really don't want to look like I have a dark turd residing on my top lip. Thanks in anticipation.

Upland bird populations

For those of us who hunt birds, how are the populations this year, in your experience ? I'm talking grouse and woodcock here. Better than usual in my personal covers. On my first hunt, my untrained springer spaniel mix and me flushed 9 different grouse, and 2 woodcock in a 2 hour hunt. That is a great flush rate in my central NY state covers. I know some of you lucky ones may scoff, and think that's slim pickins, but for me, it is a great morning.

I captured this dun on October 20 on Rose River in Shenandoah N. P. Can anyone help me identify it? The abdomen has a lovely translucent rose color; two tails (like a quill gordon) and about the same size...a big 16 or a small 14.

It has been noted that most of the original Leonard employees played various musical instruments and that they often played after work and even performed together at town functions. Believe I once read that it was a prerequisite to getting hired by Hiram Leonard (not sure if true but), curious does anyone know what instruments they each might have played? Edwards, Thomas, Hawes, Payne and Leonard himself - what instruments did they each play?
