This past Friday my buddy Adam and I drove out to my cabin the mountains. We left early in the morning and were shrouded in thick mist when we arrived at the farm. These are a few pics I took on the day.

Through the thick mist my log cabin can just be made out on top of the ridge.

Here are some Zebras and various african antilope very close to the waters...

I had been meaning to do some brookie fishing for a while and was getting frustrated that I wasn't finding the time to make the long drive down to the Shenandoah National Park. Some of the lovely small stream photos on the board were making things worse. This past Sunday found me awake at 4:30am to gas up the car and make the 2.5hr drive down to the park. Revisiting Teddy Gordon's Haunts

I revisited some of Teddy Gordon's Catskill haunts the other day.

The water, although a bit low, remained in the mid-60s and lens clear... maybe even clearer than it was 100 years ago when 'acid factories' lined Catskill rivers, boiling hemlock bark to tan leather for boots and saddles and pumping waste sludge straight into the streams.

I found the brookies just as Teddy left them... wild, eager and colorful as an artist's pallette. Since it was a sunny...

It was already the sixth time that I was there for flyfishing but always with graphite rods,but now it was with my first Bamboo rod made by Dave Norling.

IT WAS GREAT

Spent a couple of days fishing my way down to pick up my son at scout camp in SW Virginia. First day was a bust as the stream I went to was extremely low and the only fish I saw were various species of dace and shiners, some of which managed to get there tiny mouths around a fly hook.

The next day was very different. Hit up Nicotine-Free Creek (sorry, Joe) and there was plenty of water. In fact it was perhaps the most beautiful series of pools and pocket water I'd ever...

Shoeless Joe's Columbine Creek post inspired me to try my hand at a little photography/fishng cocktail.

Left out very early this morning for my closest, and favorite tailwater in the Old Dominion.

Laurel Highlands Fishing

These photos are from three recent outings in the Laurel Highlands of SW Pennsylvania. It's been the coolest and rainiest year in my memory, and high water has prevented me from fishing much. It was a treat to finally be able to spend real time on the streams over the last month.

This tiny run is a closely guarded secret. I found it a few years back and don't believe it's fished at all. It's all of 6 feet across and holds the most colorful brook trout...

Yesterday, I reached for the maps, the Montague Fishkill, the 1594 Medalist, the Glock 20, then threw the 4x4 into low and when the trek by truck became pointless, sauntered down around a wildflower-clogged mountainside and into a small, obscure stream ... which was brimming with equally-small eastern jewels and the occasional German brown.

In retrospect, had the trout tipped the scales at 2 lbs. each, it wouldn't have mattered a bit, cause though I have lived here for nearly...

Its that time of year again. Due to increased energy demands, the local tailwaters are running at full capacity which means that the fish are deep and the water for the most part is just to deep and fast to attempt to wade.

My bride of 14 years and I just returned from our first camping/fishing weekend alone ala no kids, since 2004. We really enjoy the family trips but a weekend by ourselves to do what we want on our own schedule was a really good thing

Our destination was Beaver Creek State Park in the very Southeast corner...

I was fishing on the upper section western Wisconsin's Kinnickinnick River last week, before the rains flooded it. It's the narrower section of the stream, where on weekends I can avoid the flotilla of canoeists that clog the larger section of the river, below the city of River Falls.

The trout weren't rising to any insect hatches, and my mayfly imitation seemed as attractive to the trout as Rodney...
