Hi Hardy Guy! it's the Wide.4"/1-1/4" spool width. Near mint when I got it from England,with box & papers.Stamped 4/64 inside.

kanebum! its the reel on ebay that MikeT mentioned that is why I asked.Didn't sound right to me. Even the System 11 is not the same as the Marquis Salmon #1.See GotSpeyed's post,reely-good info.

afgantrout I think that Young's reels are great.Took this black color 1 off the A&F Salmon (Phillipson /glass)of mine.Looks great on that rod.Had to file the foot alittle though.SomehowI think the Hardy reels might look better on the Battenkill/Salmon.Have seen some Sharpes (Perfect/wide clones) that would look great too.

Craigspey, I like my 4" Pridex, too! Mine is a nice old gray one and it looks like it's caught its fair share of salmon. I think it is a charming reel.

Rick thanks that tells me everything.Looks like a Salmon #1 or #2 is needed. SA #11min. Looking @ a J.A.F. 4" Salmon too.Great price,don't know if it will hold it's value like vintage Hardy's.If all else fails my JW Youngs Predex Light 4" will do.

There was recently a System 10 reel listed on ebay that the seller claimed was the same as a Salmon #1. BTW, it sold at a pretty significant discount to what a comparable Marquis Salmon #1 would have gone for.

Can any one tell me if the SA System10 & the Marquis/Salmon 1, are the same? I see that were the System reels have an 7-8-9-10,The Marquis has a 7-8/9-10-Salmon#1.
