This length rod has me again curious and wanting one! I've read many posts here praising this particular length.

What is it about this particular rod length that is so appealing?

I prefer 7 1/2' or 8' rods for a 5 weight line. Medium to medium fast tapers.

Will this length rod offer anything that my preferred length rods will not?

I realize this is a quite subjective question. I am aware that several modern makers now offer this rod length. Carlin, Lancaster, Jennings, et...

I also have John Pickard's 795. The tip section is light and lively. John says it works best with dry flies. It's easy to overload the tip if you use
split shot. I also have John's 765 Perfectionist. That shorter rod is stiffer.

The 795 protects tippets like a champ. But I feel more limited with it on the water over the 765.

With Johns' 795, you'ver really gotta slow the casting stroke. The more relaxed, the better it performs.

I believe my rod may be the one to which you refer. I've posted photos of it on both the fishing and collecting boards.
