Hello to everyone on the board, it's been a while. Anyway, just wanted to make a comment.

I spent last week fishing in Colorado and Wyoming almost exclusively with my Mike Clark 8' 5 weight Ruby taper as I love fishing dry flies with this rod.
So, I thought the bamboo resurgence was well into like it's twentieth year and was surprised when I uncased the rod on two different occaisions with guides
who acted like I had just pulled a dead snake out of the tube. Both guys...

I have been fishing my bamboo rod for 7 years now, and I think maybe 2 people have said, " nice rod" thats about it.
I lived in Bend ,Oregon for a bit and was fishing on the Deschutes river some. I shopped at a certain fly shop ,up until the owner,a young, golfer type ( no
offense to golfers, but you know what I mean) asked what kind of rod I had, his response was " bamboo doesnt cut it on the Deschutes" with a
completely straight face..., I almost laughed, but...

I often go out with guides, some of them in their 20s and 30s, and none of them fish with bamboo. And almost every one of them says, at the end of the trip,
"I've been thinking about getting a cane rod, but...." The concerns seem to be #1 (not surprisingly) the cost, and #2 the slower action. Most of
those who have cast one of my rods are surprised at how "modern" it seems and how much "backbone" it has. I have given up pointing to the
young ones that if...

All my saltwater buddies fish the latest graphites, and recently, I brought my Dennis Stone made, Dickerson 8014 to a flyfishing club meeting and let several
of the guys cast it. None of them had ever seen a good bamboo rod up close, much less ever cast one. Well the 8014 taper is a line cannon, as they soon found
out. I particularly enjoyed watching the expressions on their faces change as they worked line out and got into the rythm of casting the rod. They left with a

I fish a tailwater about an hour from my place. I've got the place memorized, and know the fish pretty well... but the local red necks don't know
that. I get more comments about fishing cane, catching more fish than anyone else, and putting fish back!!! Fortunately we do have a few cane affectionados
in the area, and every once in a while we get 2 or 3 of us on the river together and start cleaning house with some size 18 & 20 soft hackles. The local
spin fisher crowd goes...

Sometimes it just comes together. I'd eased into a deep corner on one of our well publicized tailwaters that morning with a rather seasoned 8 1/2'
Bill Stanley's Favorite. The two of us were having quite a time of it with the way the locals were protesting the aftertaste the small caddis flies were
causing them. At some point, I noticed three anglers upstream watching the commotion and could hear the occasional, "He's got another" and other
windswept comments. I...

My son recently surprised me with a prepaid, guided half day trip on Lost Creek near Broken Bow, Ok. The guide watched me line up my R.W Lancaster Big Horn
rod, and said he had a doctor he guided that had an old bamboo rod that was limp willow stick. Well, needless to say, after I had landed a dozen rainbows up to
18 inches on an elk hair caddis, the guide finally commented that I seemed to be able to cast my rod pretty well. I smiled and handed it to him....and after he
had made a few casts...

Perhaps it depends on where one is fishing. I recently took my Chris Carlin 8' 5wt FET taper out for a spell on the Henry's Fork. All I got were
knowing glances, a few gracious nods of the head, and a "Wow!" or two.

I also fished the same rod on the wade section of the Upper Madison. I didn't run into anybody there (other than Dennis, who I was fishing with), but I

Several years ago I booked a day on a pay to fish stream. When the owner saw my bamboo rod he told me that I would either break the rod or kill the fish which
BTW averaged 3 to 4 lbs. I assured him that it would be OK though as a courtesy I accepted the loan of his 6wt. Sage just so he would feel better. He joined me
when I broke for lunch and I got him to cast my rod which he seemed to like but didn't say much. Later on he came down and asked if he could cast my rod
