Hi...
just saw his thread. I purchased a 7'1" 2 piece, 2 tip Arend in excellent shape more than a year ago
on the famous **** auction site. The rod is excellent original and has Mrs. Arend's script along
with the original bag and fiber (ala early Granger's) tube with gold paper label from Bill's shop.
I believe it to be late-1930's to mid-1940's rod. It is a very nice 4 oz. 5W with jasper wraps and
has the unique (rectangular shaped) cork...

Nice looking rod in wonderful condition!
I especially like the wrap color combination.
And it does appear to have Phillipson influences including Bill's famous "No-rok" reel seat.
The step down ferrules are also rather unusual for a Colorado rod.

Enjoy!

Ok, here's some more info on the rod, and some pictures finally. Not the best quality pics, but you get the idea.
Both the top sections are the exact same length. With the top on, the rod is 7' 10" from end to end. The bamboo section is exactly 7'.
I compared the writing to an example that is in the book Colorado Classic Cane, and am starting to think that it might
actually have been made during the Bill Arend period....

Goodwin & Arend were friendly rivals in tournament casting as well not only the local level but also the national level. Bill Holding metal supervisor at
Granger moonlighted working at and helping Arend develop his machinery. Holding was told by Bill Phillipson, Granger manager at that time to stop or at least
make it more discreet. FYI the flowing writing on my rod is Mrs. Arend's. My Arend is as nicely done as any of my higher end model Granger's.
