Idar Build it the way you have it. The node spacing is cosmetic..and or you will get a little more (very little) stiffening in that area. I might not try to sell it but it will not make a difference in the finished rod. Regards Jerry

I built a 3 piece 4wt with nodes staggered about 2 inches, fishes fine!

Steve, good idea, but I'd already done that... A different staggering won't work either, unless I were to build a very short rod.

The more I think about it, and the more feedback I get, I'm quite convinced that the rod would be structurally sound
if I were go ahead and build it with the nodes that close.

However, I did an inventory of the all split cane I've got, and sorted the strips to yield...

I think Steve's suggestion is a good one that will get you decent spacing.

As to the question about good idea/bad idea to space nodes quite closely, several years ago someone wrote in the Planing form about putting all 6 nodes together, just to see what happened (Was it Tyree?). Anyway, he fished the Dickens out of the rod, had no problems, and the last I heard it was still going strong. I wouldn't recommend placing all 6 together, maybe, but I don't think I'd...

Try the Garrison or spiral method. You can even splice a couple of strips to get the desired length. Garrrison spliced his strips to get the length he needed to make a rod.

I see now. Steve's suggestion is a good one. Another idea is to stagger the nodes spiral. Put 1.5 inches between nodes, one node a flat, and see if that works.

you could try flipping one of the stripes end for end so the tip end of the cane is at the butt and see if that improves your spacings ,steve

Post another pic zoomed out to the length of the strips with the nodes showing. Somebody might come up with a clever stagger you didn't think of, I am wondering if a spiral might work better. Otherwise, you won't know for sure until you try if it's a bad idea.

Distance between the nodes is: 0--9 1/2"--12 1/2"--11 1/4".

Hi,

going through my very modest, and quickly dwindeling stash of bamboo, I've found enough
short strips to make the bottom and mid for a 3pc 7'6" rod. However, the nodes would be very
close together, about two inches between each "ridge". There is a lot of uninterupted cane at either
end. Would this work, or is it asking for trouble?
