Below is a 3 1/8" Hardy perfect. A TU buddy of mine just picked this up and wants to know any details ya'll can provide about history, value, etc..
It has a brass ribbed and dovetailed foot. My friend is especially interested in whether the anodized finish has been removed from the face plate and if so
whether he should/could have it restored. thanks, Jim

I believe he straight line logo started when production resumed after WWII and the leaded finish was used until around 1950, when they started painting the
reels. I have a few reels with these characteristics that are marked with a Z, and have been told the Z mark was applied to reels that were in process when the
factory stopped for the war and completed when production resumed after the war.

It looks to me like this reel had a leaded finish, not enamel. It is common for this finish to wear off on the winding plate but still be present on the frame.
A shot of the spool may confirm this. If it is a leaded finish, the reel can be dated in the 1945-1950 range. I would not attempt to repaint or refinish this
reel. Value is anybody's guess these days.

It looks to me as if the pawl on the reel in the top photo doesn't have the tooth engaging the spool.

I've heard that Hardy in Canada can re-paint the enamel-finish reels. Not sure of the expense, though.

Jim,
The 1950's reel below has the same brass notched foot and hardy reel & co logo's on the side of the reel as your friends so I would guess they are
from the same era. However, the reel below has the enamel finish - so I would say your friends reel has had the finish removed and polished. Not sure about
value.
