The tapers work. Somedays I just have trouble reading. That's what happens when you get a Detroit education.

These rods did not enter the scene until the 40s or 50s and there appears to be more logos, guide spacings and wrap colors than first relized when Michael Sinclair published his book. The wraps on my rod are a dark steel blue. Tough match but I had one spool of Belding Corticelli that is real close. The Tonka Prince originally did not have a stripping guide, just one large snake near the ferrule on the butt section. I've refinished 3 of them and seen several other originals. I've added a Mildrum stripping guide to all of them I've worked with, and re-spaced all the guides using 7 snakes, the stripper, and tiptop. The rods cast like a dream when finished.

Whatever the era is from my experience with the rod I would include a stripping guide as apposed to using a snake for the same purpose.

Mine may be the odd ball. It has the 1920's era decal. wrapped in red and lack jasper with green tipping that is spaced about 1" away from each wrap. Nothing like in in Mike's book.

The numbers on the left are from the ferrule and the four numbers on the right are from the top of the tip top down to 15". I did not go farther because you only needed the top 10 ". I will make another attempt. The numbers on the right are not supposed to be crowding the numbers on the left. I will do a better job tonight. I am too busy right now.

Now I have a dilemma. Your rod has a ceramic stripper and Dan's rod has a snake. Must be different eras. This rod has a leaping fish logo on top of a white diamond with H-I in red and UTICA , N. Y. in small black letters under the H-I. Michael Sinclair does not show or mention this logo in his restoration book. 50 lashes with an old 9' Horrocks Ibottson metal rod. My Prince does not have a stripping guide, but a snake guide instead. The tip has five snake guides and the butt has two guides total.

On the butt section, there is a snake near the ferrule and a Mildrum style stripper lower near the grip. The stripper is about 9.5 mm O.D. and the I.D. is about 6.25mm. Hope this helps.

I have a 7' 2pc H-I Tonka Prince that I am restoring. I can get the tapers to you next week. The guides on the butt section are missing and I need to know if there is a stripper guide or if it is a snake guide. There are 5 snakes on the tip section. One or two snakes on the butt. Maybe we can help each other.

I need to build a new tip to scarf into my Tonka prince. If anyone has the taper I'd appreciate it. I only need to make a 4" section but the taper for at least the 10" down from the tip would help. Or the taper for the entire rod if it's easier.
