I bought a Leonard 2p. graphite 4wt.rod, I was told it was a model Carbonite

It dose not have any writing on the rod, it does have a Leonard logo cap and ring reel seat

The rod is a dark brown in color with brown rapping, there is not any pattern or design under the finish

Can any one tell me any thing about these rods and when they were made

I like the rod, it will throw a lot of line

Yes the Golden Shadows were deep brown. They were special order rods that at the time were the highest priced graphite on the market. I own a 9ft 5wt that is
the nicest casting graphite rod I own.

Yes. I'm pretty sure that after the early gray Graftek rods (which were really very good, and not made by Exxon, Schweibert notwithstanding) all Leonard
graphite originated at Diamondback. Diamondback (Barton Merle-Smith) made some of the best graphite rods on the planet for a good long while. I wish I still
had a few, so give a shout if you ever part with that Leonard.......

All Diamondback blanks of the period had the pattern - it didn't always show though. This rod is a Diamondback blanked rod. The Leonard Golden Shadow rods
were also Diamondback blanks, and very similar to the (later) Classic Trout rods from Diamondback. At that time, Diamondback and REC were partnered up and both
had a close relationship with Leonard.

No expert here. But Carbonite rods were offered by Diamondback some years ago. They were good quality and were og moderate price and had a medium fast action,
IMO. I have seen other marked Leonard rods that were on Diamondback blanks. I have read that Leonard had trouble with their intial graphite Blanks
(Schweibert's Trout, I believe), and used other sources later on. Hope that helps.
