Chuck, is there a chance that you have this "engagement" thing all wrong? Why not ask the young lady if she would like to be engaged? If she answers yes, then you send her shopping for the ring, which she should pay for. That way she gets the ring she likes and if it doesn't work out, you've just saved the price of a good rod. The only down side to doing it that way is that if you do end up married to said young lady, then you will hear about the "ring thing" for...

Something with a swelled butt.
The cork is the hard part do deal with with the large bore because eyou want a tight fit with no gaps on the ends. I'm sure a blank maker could build you a blank with a swelled butt to fit the cork.
The reel seat is easy. you can always build up the blank with masking tape or that holed sticky tape for taping sheet rock seams, that way glue will get through to the blank to help hold it in place.

I suppose it isn't any crazier than buying an engagement ring before you ask a girl to marry you, and we've all been there.

The bore you describe on the reel seat will fit practically any rod, and the grip ID can be reamed-out with a rat-tail file to fit most rods.

From the bore you describe the seat is probably a locking seat. Considering this, and with the 7" grip, I would suggest at least a 8'-0" 5wt, and anything longer/heavier up to...

I JUST LIKED THE COMBO OF HANDLE AND REEL SEAT.i figured if i could get an idea by the bore of what it would fit ,weight wise, i could search out a flamed rod or blank and put together a project.thanks i know its a little backwards but hey why not..

Hi Grangaris,

Too broad of a question.

In my opinion it would look lost on a Spey rod and nutty on a Midge. Beyond that it's a balance of practicality and personal taste.

Please don't tell me you have a grip and a reel seat and you're looking for a rod to fit it...

hi, could someone tell me what a 7 and a half inch handle with a .375 bore and a reel seat with a counter bore of .815 would fit what. weight rod?thanks for any help.
