Thank you. I'm really doing very well and being as patient as I can be. My surgeon told me my only job right now is to heal - so that's what I'm going to do. That, and follow his advice to the letter. I'd rather not rush into that again - open heart surgery is about as much "NOT FUN" as this boy can stand. And, it's a LOT to put your family through, though my wife (Cathy) is taking great care of me. She is a retired Navy...

Bingo!!!! About 15 years ago dear wife wanted me to get heat checked because I was over 50 and the No. 1 cardiologist was a fellow Episcopalian. After 6 weeks of "Everything is fine..... but..." appointments they told me the same bit... let's just check. I almost didn't... Hey, I'm a former Air Commando, helicopter pilot, etc. etc....

The surgeon's comment as I lay there on the table and they ran the probe up into my heart was......

Glad you are ok. Will keep you in prayers. I don't know how difficult the recovery from that surgery is now but hope you are swiftly back on the water.....

Thank you gentlemen for your well-wishes and encouragement. I just really hope that my stupidity encourages someone reading this thread to give his/her doctor a call or maybe make some lifestyle changes and end up with many happy, healthy years with family and fly fishing ahead. Life is too darned short to screw OURSELVES up!

Glad you are doing well. Cardiologist by trade and unfortunately I've seen it over and over again when people wait for that first symptom, sometimes that symptom is sudden death. I may be biased, but anybody with risk factors(diabetes, smoking, family history, cholesterol, male, age over 50, high blood pressure) should be plugged in to see me sooner rather than later....the more of the above you have, the sooner you should be seen. Nothing surprises me anymore including me putting in 5...

Not that you need to be told but take every day for what it is, cherish the moment and don't put off any further physicals, take care.

I'm glad everything was caught in time. I have a yearly check-up and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't have known I had diabetes 8 years ago.
May your recovery go like clockwork and I'll see you in Sept.

Pat, this is one happy "new beginning" for you. I may do the same just for piece of mind.

I had a very good friend take chest pains, 20 yrs. ago, and he was reluctant to have an ambulance take him to the hospital. I insisted and he had to undergo a triple bypass. He is not the emotional type but I do know he is appreciative and I still have my fishing partner.

Glad to hear a happy ending/ beginning story.

When's the last time you had a physical? I had put one off for several years even though I am over-weight, in my 50's and spend TOO much time in an office-largely because I had no symptoms. About 3 weeks back, I obliged my wife by getting a full physical. X-rays, ekg's and a stress test turned up "some little something." My doctor sent me to a cardiologist who looked at everything and said there was something on the left side of my heart that was puzzling and said...
