        <![CDATA[ I did a search for deet and could not find any negative effects about fishing those beautiful bamboo rods and the use of fly repellent that has deet, will deet
cause the wrap finish to become soft/ tacky.  I have used it often and have had plastics soften when it comes in contact with deet.  Some people will not use
it because of health concerns and with West Nile a real concern in Canada now, for me, deet is the ultimate deterrent to mosquitoes, though if it eats the boo
rod finish then... ]]>

			<description><![CDATA[ My first encounter with 100% DEET was when a friend gave me a bottle to try.  I lived in an area with extremely aggressive mosquitoes and it seemed like just
the ticket.  Then one day I was out on the porch playing my vintage 1940s Martin guitar.  The skeeters were all around me, and I just laughed... until I went
to put the guitar down and about 12 sq. inches of finish were literally stuck to my arm!

			<description><![CDATA[ I carry multiple levels with me.  I like Sawyers and have been using it for a few years now with good results.  They make it for clothing and skin.  I look for
small bottles of the stuff for skin application or move it to a small bottle and it goes in a pocket on shirt, shorts or vest. I usually start with this.  You
can get the low-grade DEET stuff (18-30%) in a nice mixture with sunscreen, also a smart move...forget the brand name...Cutter&#39;s or OFF.  I also keep a
bottle of 100% DEET in... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Ticks need to be on you 24-48 hours before they give you Lyme Disease. A daily full-body tick patrol is in order. Ticks also carry some other nasty things,
like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, babasiosis, erlichiosis. Some others are Southern Tick-Associated Rash Illness, Tick-borne Relapsing Fever, and
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. Lyme, RMSF and Erlichiosis are the ones we hear of most in E.R. literature. ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Read what the repellent actually repels. Most of them don&#39;t repel ticks. I have already been treated for Lyme Disease once and it sucks. Plus you will
forever test positive, so if you know you have been bitten by a deer tick you might as well go through the treatment again. And that treatment is hard on your
organs, the disease is even worse if untreated. Keep it away from your waders as well. I would rather re-finish a rod if I must so I can spend more years

			<description><![CDATA[ <p>The gnats in the coastal marsh that I frequent eat Off on the main course (me) and demand  Ultrathon on their dessert (also me). The one thing that does
keep them out of my eyes nose and ears when the wind lays down is a bug suit. They still get into it occasionally and gnaw at me, but it is a tremendous help.
It is hard to see details like submerged fish, but its better than getting carried away with the swarm.

			<description><![CDATA[ That&#39;s what the bugs find me. In younger days my ass was chewed to pieces while my girlfriend&#39;s went unscathed, although the experiment wasn&#39;t
really scientific in nature.

I like the spray on stuff for my clothes, but they still come after me.

The DEET product that doesn&#39;t make me paranoid is one from Cutters that comes in a stick like deodorant and sits on your skin rather than soaking into it.

			<description><![CDATA[ DEET&#39;s the most effective stuff made, IMO. I have one bottle of the 100% stuff left and use it on hats and clothing only. I tried a citrus-based product
called Natrapel last year on exposed skin, harmless to lines and rods and it worked OK but had to be reapplied every hour of so.

			<description><![CDATA[ There&#39;s another repellent ingredient called picaridin or also known as icaridin, which is being touted as an effective alternative to deet. It&#39;s said
it will not dissolve plastics or mar finishes. Cutter&#39;s Insect Repellent uses it. But some sources I have read say it&#39;s not nearly as effective as
deet. I guess whatever you use, it has to be some pretty bad stuff to repel blood suckers. ]]></description>

they&#39;re much cooler in the summer time and I hardly ever see a mosquito up there. The best bug repellent is to go where the bugs aren&#39;t.

or the carrier/inactive ingredient.

I spend 3-5 days/week out doors and can say for sure that deet products work on bugs. I use the stuff. When fishing, I choose to use Cutters stick in the
push-up tube. It allows me to apply the repellent exactly where I want it...open seams on clothing, underside of hat brims, the backs of... ]]></description>
