			<description><![CDATA[ I can barely tie my fly to the leader. That fly was tied by a chap named Wayne Samson II, of Perrysburg OH. The legs are articulated (tied on separate
shanks/pins) so it would &quot;kick&quot; if you actually fished it. You&#39;d need a 10 wt to fish this - it&#39;s about a 3/0 hook. He ties them for display
- at about 75.00 per, I believe.

spare in pushing 2/0 hair bugs. I have down sized was using Orvis Shooting Star and Salmon rod for ten weight, now using 8 1/2 ft Battenkill &quot;Joe
Brooks&quot; model and light salmon both handling eight weight lines. I use regular taper lines or long belly - I am along line caster. I fish at night so my
leader is four or five ft... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Anything over 4 oz. gets tiring for me - I have some vertebral problems - but I fish the big rods anyway, I just take breaks and watch birds.

There&#39;s one thing no one really mentioned - If you are fishing &quot;bass bugs&quot; (Big, topwater cork or deer hair poppers, etc.), they&#39;re not
heavy, just bulky. They inhibit line speed and don&#39;t cast well with light or fast rods. The cane recommendations above are good, a big Thomas, Granger or
South Bend would be great -... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ There is a Bob Norwood taper out there that if my memory serves me correctly is for an 8&#39; 8wt rod.  He also has an 8.5 version but I thnk it might be an
unpublished taper.  Anyway, the 8 foot rod was one that I was able to cast about a year ago (I believe) and it is without a doubt the most powerful rod
(regardless of material) that I have ever cast.  This taper Bob has and the rod he made with it completely changed my understanding of the potential with cane

It sounds like something in the 8-9&#39; range and 7-8 wt will work, particularly on my 2-3 acre ponds. The info on leaders is especially appreciated.

leader, but shift down to 7&#39; 0x for heavy in-the-pad or night fishing. The hollowbuilt will handle pretty much any bug you care to use and is superb with

			<description><![CDATA[ I love bass, especially smallies, and I use a 7 wt. graphite.  I have a 9 ft. 2.5 f. Heddon that I use sometimes, but to me the graphite just outshines the
bamboo in this weight.  I have never tried a hollowbuilt rod in this size but that may be a good option if you want to stick to cane.  I used to be a cane only
fanatic and slowly decided that there is definitely a place for other materials, and for me that is the longer rods in the higher line weights (and drift boat

			<description><![CDATA[ For tossing big deer hair bugs I use an 8&#39;, 7 wt. hollow built rod (same rod I use for steelhead on the PM), a SA Bass Bug taper fly line and a 7 - 8 foot
piece of 12# Maxama Ultra green or Trilene big game clear mono for a leader. Don&#39;t bother tying on any tippet for this kind of fishing. The knots just
collect alge and weeds.

Make a smooth loop in the end of the fly line. Tie a loop in the end of the leader to connect loop-to-loop to the fly line. I make up a few of these... ]]></description>

To cast the big bass bugs for big bass, get yourself a 7 or 8 weight rod (a model 59, 47 or 24 South Bend will do but there a better, more expensive rods that
work well too)  at a length of 8 1/2&#39; or 9&#39;. Buy some RIO Clouser Line of appropriate weight. Then use 5&#39; of  15 lb test Florocarbon mono with a
1&#39;, 10 lb or 12lb test tippet and your&#39;re ready to toss some big bass bugs.

waters as well....    For really bushy hair bugs I have just looped on  a couple feet of leader butt and a couple feet of tippet  but mostly the 6ft
leader.......  but take this with a grain of salt as I love bass and panfish but fish a lot more for trout. (there are some real bass experts here I just
