I have an 8' Heddon #35 that has one tip that is about 3" short. I would like to get it scarfed back to original length. My question is would it be
possible to do this by de-laminating a section of another Heddon rod to salvage the strips? I have a miscellaneous mid section from a Heddon trade rod that
is broken off at the female ferrule. The cane color seems to be a close match to the short tip and I was just wondering if this is possible or practical.
Has anyone out there...

Thanks to everyone who replied. I delaminated the strips very easily by simply sticking a cork into a section of copper tubing, clamping a visegrip to the
other end to serve as a handle and filling it with hot water. It took several applications but it was no problem.

The short tip and the strips are on there way to Tapermaker for repair.

I made a new mid for an HI using the strips from an odd Monty section that I delaminated and planed to the new numbers. I delaminated by soaking in the bath
tub overnight. It worked very well.

Best to take the advise and have the scarf done by a well known and respected expert and ask for references. One experience I had was such that the scarf has
one flat twice the size of another flat. Not to difficult to see the tip was scarfed and performance is also less than expected.

If you are going to have it scarfed, I would suggest having the scarf done so that the scarf is under the 1st guide below the tiptop. That way the guide wraps
help hide the scarf.

I think I get what you are asking. You want to de lam a mid section and than replane the strips to make a new or part of a new tip section. You want to
know if this is possible. My answer is yes. I just did it for an H-I. Hardest part is de-laming. Why is it that when you want it to happen it won't?

Wes Cooper would be the one person that I would use...I got a tip scarfed on my Model 35 and like Mike Clark's work, I can't tell the one tip from the
other...I also had a Granger 7633 scarfed at both the mid and the base of one tip (both broke at the same time) and again, only if you know that it was
scarfed. He matches cane color and the only way I know is if the original wraps are there, you can tell that the thread color is off a bit...and then you can
see the flow line of the...
