not regular production line stuff and I think their serial numbers may have had a code of some kind but apparently that all went to the dump or incinerator
decades ago.

Wow thanks Jeff!
A lot of good information, from what you have here I would say mine is a 1936 edition of the 25's. I found a vintage tip top from a section to one of my
SB 12's that is missing the female ferrule, so tonight I'm going to finish the wrap on the tip. The tip is 3" short, but it should still fish
pretty good.

Thanks again Jeff.

The variations in wrap colors had me wondering so I went back through South Bend catalogs and here's what I found. All I have noted here is what changed
from the previous year, so when evaluating an example this list will only tell you how early it might be. Until the
1936 catalog, there was no mention of thread color, not even the first year. All catalogs from there on listed it with B&O jasper.

I'm not sure Jordan deserves much credit for thread color patterns on the South Bends. I suspect that was Marketing's decision. When left to his own
devices at Orvis he went pretty monochromatic.

He was a big proponent of varnish color variations though, beginning at Cross and extending a bit into South Bend years, where he fooled a bit with surface
flaming. Ultimately common sense, and profit sense, won over.

Sal,

I like the wraps on your rod, it's another link to Wes Jordan continuing on with designs began at Winchester. Early South Bends are a thread that needs
more exploring in my eyes. The early rods with the German silver hardware, Cross Built rods and even later higher end SB rods are beautiful! Thanks for
sharing those photos with me, I'm saving all the pictures of the different rods, models, wraps and lengths so that I can learn more and more. Michael

JH, the rod really cleaned up nicely. I was glad to see this post because I have a similar SB rod that is an 8' 3/2 4wt. Same style reel seat, winding

has been restored but I believe the color scheme is original.
