Here's a very interesting rod. One of a few "AKF Sprite" 7 1/2' 2/2 rods made by Gene Edwards for Art Kade between 1948 and 1951. Clearly
like-new, the rod retains original cellophane on the cork grip, and retains what appear to be original hanging tags. Lightly flamed cane & Super Z

The REC tube and poplin bag are new (the family admitted to having thrown out the originals!). Otherwise, the rod appears to have never had a reel attached.

Patrick, thanks for the kudos and the rod...and the bag and tube as it helps to make up for the lady's unfortunate mistake of throwing them away and
completes the outfit in a nice way. Its even more of a great fishing rod that I thought it would be and the connection to the Gene Edwards/Art Kade/Helen Shaw
connection makes it even more special as I would bet that she did the wrapping what with the tip top thread work...correct me if I am wrong but I like to think
that as I fish the rod,...

its a wound over metal winding check, brown with gold tipping that is repeated at the ferrules but not at the guides...as can be seen in Patrick's pics
above, the tip tops have an interesting pattern in that they are done with a long wrapping of brown silk that is over wrapped with a spiral of gold silk
thread....a very pretty and distinct wrapping pattern...I'll post more pics in the images section when I get the time...dj

I bought the Sprite from Patrick as I love Gene Edward's work and couldn't pass it up. The rod and I are the same age and its in better condition than
I am for sure. I had to decide whether to fish it or store it as the plastic wrap was still on the handle when it arrived and it definitely hadn't been
fished...the deciding factor for me at least was that I just wanted to fish it...I bought it to fish a classic rod made by Gene Edwards...so I fished it this
past week on Hat Creek...

Wonderful looking rod. IMHO Gene's rods are way underrated and some of the finest made by Edwards family. Great casters.

Hey Pat,
Nice rod. As you know, I once owned a 7-1/2' AKF Sprite. It was one of the nicest casting 4wts I've owned. Your's looks similar to mine, the
longeer tip wraps were also on my Sprite. Yours has a different signature wrap scheme. The general wrap color is a little darker, but probably because yours
is basically new. Sweet rod!
