I've guided for just shy of 10 years now. I do less and less of the day-to-day guiding now - just too much to get through in a day at my fly-shop. But, I do get to cherry-pick the best trips, like going to Alaska with some clients as a host next month - talk about a tough job! Guiding is the best job in the world when you're out there with someone who is keen to learn and share ideas and appreciate that a good days fishing is not just about loads of fish on the end of a line. I guees the new laws are not all that bad for a full time guide but I do it part time and the premium for the half milloin is about half of my yearly take. But like you, its more fun just helping nubeis from time to time. thanks for the replies

What Uni said,although i guided for a lodge and the food was prepared but i supplied the vehicle/gas.

I used to guide, but after a few seasons I found that it wasn't entirely in my blood. Once I got to the point of fishing well enough to think that I could be a decent guide, I was appreciating things about the sport beyond the catching of lots of big fish. Trying to pass that appreciation on was not working well.

From what I recall though, guiding through a shop was not a fee-intensive endeavor. The shop posted most of the fees. I just had to supply gas money and buy food. Oh,...

Oklahome just passed a guide law and its going to cost everyone more money. who guides? and what are the fees your state charges and other cost?
