doesn&#39;t  seem to be any books or web based step by step tutorials available. I have a 7 x 12, drill press, etc., but just need seem guidance on how to
start the process.

I&#39;ve had the good fortune to visit the current Bogdan shop and thought I&#39;d clarify that they start with tubing to mill the frames on a Flather Lathe
that might be older than Stan <img height="15" src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" width="15" alt="image">.    There is a photo of Steve
using it on page 39 in the book.

Reportedly the 4 coil springs in the salmon reels are the only parts that are not made in their shop.

Most of the photos in the Bogdan book were taken by Dave Rust, so in addition to getting the OK from Graydon and the Bogdan&#39;s you&#39;d need to get
permission from Dave.    I correspond with them on a fairly regular basis and if you&#39;d like to PM me with your contact info I&#39;ll pass it on to Graydon
and Dave (sounds like you are already able to contact Steve &amp; Stan).

			<description><![CDATA[ I never doubted Bogdans did their own milling - I mean getting roughed out say plus 1/32 inch  mmc (ie max material condx) by someone with a big heavy lathe.
I&#39;ve even milled on the lathe - a huge area ie ornamental turning in the 18th and 19th centuries was devoted to this .... google Holtzapffel.

			<description><![CDATA[ Well said William, If you can make enough fixtures and have enough orders to fill it is possible to make many parts on one set-up and start making

some money. I think the key is to have enough orders.
<br>
On my small turret lathes I can make 50 turned and tapped stainless pillars in about three hours.
<br>
Thats enough for ten reels.
<br>
I&#39;m still trying to figure out how I can get a reel done in ten or less hours and not use any CNC.

product, but dont go into much detail about the making of the product.  Your web site is a good idea as well.  I hope it takes off and those that have interest

			<description><![CDATA[ I know its none of my business, tho can&#39;t help wondering from the photo if Mr Bogdan got his drums and frames roughed out for him elsewhere, ie his lathes
in the photos are small and light ....for finish turning perhaps, any local jobbing johnny would be able to rough from solid stock for him. Assuming of course
that he used solid bar stock and not custom castings, tho castings I think couldn&#39;t be anodised. Nice picture at the top .......very atmospheric. I come

			<description><![CDATA[ I started my fun in a friends garage.  Quick tutorial on his part about how to operate the lathe and mill (all the basics) and off I went.  All you need is a
vision of what you want.  A pencil.  Paper.  Simple math skills.  Of course you need a starting point.  There are plenty of reels around to give you an idea of
what works.  Look for machining marks as they can help decipher how its turned/milled.  Be prepared to make a lot of mistakes during your trial and error

as much room to turn. Twenty five years in the same workshop makes me a little cluttered, my walls are solid &#39;stuff&#39; ... six foot racking starts six
foot off the ground so as to maximise 168sq ft. Suits me. ]]></description>
