Fellas,

I contacted Bill Archuleta to ask if he could replace a cracked agate on a 3" St. George that I have acquired.

He said arthritis has put an end to his agate replacing.

He did suggest a reel repair shop in British Columbia.

I will contact them, but in the meantime, anyone else closer in the U.S. who does the agate replacement. Of course, I also need to acquire a new agate.

Thanks!

Thank you! Fascinating stuff. The agates are alluring and beautiful, but good thing most of my old reels are Medalists with round metal lineguards. They made
these for ham-handed guys like me-- even I can't find a way to break the 'Diamolite' ring.

On both of my reels done at Hardy BC, they removed the bezel, replaced the agate, and then reinstalled. As Bow River said, you then have 1 new rivet that holds
the arm of the bezel to the frame. On the replacement done in the UK, they replaced the bezel and the agate, so the process was the same.

wow
red candy
hard to beat that reel for looks ,

rob ,
what they do is cut the agate out first in pieces with a dremal tool so it don't bend the bezel ,

some will remove the whole bezel and then when done re rivit it back on , i have heard of a better way and then you don't have a new rivit in your old reel
, after the agate is cut out first , they take a small torch and heat the top edgeing of the bezel a little bit and then it's easy to roll up...

Thank you so much for your responses. Will send PMs.
Out of curiousity -- and since I don't own any other agate lineguard reels -- if it's possible to describe the process simply and fairly quickly, how
are the agates replaced?

Rob;
I have had 2 agates replaced at Hardy BC - one on a St. George and one on a Perfect. In those cases, I provided the agates, and they did just the placement.
They can also obtain the agate the agate for you, depending on the particular size and color you're looking for. I've also had one replaced on a St.
George at Hardy in the UK. Now that they are manufacturing Perfects again, they have a supply of agates, and will do the repair. This is managed through Hardy
USA in PA. You...
