Hi

I'm planning on building a short 3pc rod (no longer than 7'6") next winter that can handle fish up 18".

I prefer a rod that is a bit faster, like Dickerson style rods.

Any ideas on what rod I should build?

I haven't cast many, in fact I only have one data point. I set out to convert the Driggs published in the Planing Form, the one that starts at .068 and
ends at .270, to a 3-pc. I held the taper constant, just flattened the rise a little bit (3 thou) at the new ferrule stations, and took the same amount off of
the old ferrule station. Used regular Super-Z ferrules. While the 2-pc is an easy-going 4 or 5wt, the 3-pc experiment came out as a 5-6wt. Nice caster, but
strong. Why? I...

Thank you for your suggestions.

I'll look up that 3pc Gillum.

How does the 3pc Driggs feel compared to the 2pc? I really like the 2pc version even if it ain't close to a Dickerson.

I've always liked the 7ft 3-pc 4/5wt from Pinky Gillum in The Lovely Reed. Quite a strong little rod, but not so thick as to be a short log (IMHO).
Pretty "Dickerson-esque".

Some of the conversions of the Driggs to 3-pc might suit you... hexrod has a version or 2, I think... Might not be as strong as you want though...
that's all subjective.

Chris Carlin has posted (here or on rodbuildersforum) a recipe for the 7ft6 perfectionist converted to 3-pc....
