A recent purchase was a saltwater tournament casting rod hand-made by 1915 World Champion surfcaster E.E. Davis. Very neat rod and a nice historical piece. He
made and sold saltwater rods from his New Jersey tackle shop ca. 1910-1930.

Found my HL Leonard SW bait rod. It looks like it would handle about 20 lb test line so it would be good for local California SW fishing up to small
albacore/tuna using live bait or up to about a 1-2 ounce jig. I don't know if it would survive a big fish... Last time I was albacore/tuna fishing 100
miles South of San Diego, we were fishing for schoolie Albies so I was using my brand new 9 ft live bait rod with 15 lb test. Nobody was catching anything for
about 1 hour as they were using...

Bought the rod really cheaply, intending to sell it on the Devil's Swap Meet at an outrageous profit - then reality set in. You can't take good,
selling photos of a 9 1/2 foot rod (even if it does break down to 7 feet and 2 1/2 feet); the idea of mailing it, UPSing it or Fedexing it is a non-starter -
it would cost about the national debt of Albania. Local pick-up? Never been lucky with that. So here I sit with a truly gorgeous piece of bamboo that

Not surprisingly, saltwater bait rods are often found in southern New England, where they were used to cast chunk menhaden ("pogies") for striped
bass. I have seen Tycoon Tackle and other makers owned by private individuals and offered in antique shops from Cape Cod to Newport, RI.

Jeff's post reminds me that EW Edwards (pre-1932) made "saltwater" fly rods. I've never personally seen one, nor seen one for sale in
contemporary catalogs. I'm curious to know if anyone owns one... A PM would be appreciated!
