The rod shop was the last straw for my x-wife. She was ok with all the gear, even the weekends in the woods, but the evenings in the shop was the last straw and the end to a 29 year run.

So shutting down the shop and getting rid of her gave me a lot more time on the water. After a few years I had to go back to work but it was great.

The next best thing to fishing is reading about fishing when you aren't fishing.....at least it keeps me out of the bars and houses of ill repute......yeah, right...at my age what could I do in there, anyway? I'll stick with fishing.

I have only a few words of advice.

Place the Bamboo out of sight, or better yet send it to me so that the disease progresses no further, and Take up heroin NOW. It is cheaper, less addictive and far more socially acceptable. You will be associating with a much better class of people and you will be able to communicate in coherent complete sentences far more frequently. All of your freinds will still abandon you, but at least there is some small hope...

Hey TJ,

I was born and raised in Polson but never touched a fly rod until I retired. I know first hand how the boo bug can bite you - it grabs you and refuses to let go, so you might as well get used to it. Plus, the members of this forum will be of no help to you whatsoever - they are as addicted (or maybe even more so) than you. But at least there is some comfort in numbers - we really do try to take care of everyone's fishing needs. So welcome to the asylum!

Well rookie....I was in your shoes 5-6 years ago, except for the building part. That will come later for me. It ain't so bad. It keeps you out of the bars and away from lewd women who, along with the booze, would only keep you from acquiring more bamboo rods. The wife has to like that....mine sure does! Cost is probably about the same but the real satisfaction is a lot better. Besides, fishin' with 'boo is a heck of a lot more fun than fishin' with some synthetic, man-made...

rodmaker for some fine bamboo fishing. That sort
of thing really taxes a wife's patience.

Glad you're here, TJ, among the blameworthy. Quite a
number of these rascals know lots about bamboo fly rods,
making them, restoring them, fishing them, and similar
sins of the flesh.

somebody asked me if I would ever cheat on my wife ..... and I told them that sometimes it feels that way when I grab that blond rod and spend a few hours at the stream ... it feels so good and personal that it must be wrong....it must be an affair.

Gentlemen (and ladies),

It is all your fault. I was innocently cruising the net for fly-fishing stories, etc. 4 months ago when this site jumped out at me and sunk in its claws. I have now caught the disease.... I have bought four bamboo fly rods in three months as well as the bulk of the tools required for building my own. It is all I can think about. I almost feel like I am cheating on my wife with my lust for bamboo.
