I believe that Poul Jorgensen credited it to Larry Solomon someplace in "Modern Fly Dressings for the Practical Angler" (but that might have been a pattern and not the material)

"Fishing the Dry Fly as a Living Insect" was an eye opener for me as far as insect/trout behavior and technique go, but I'll be a buzzkill about Wright's caddis pattern. With all respect to Wright...try as I might...I never did well with it. As best I can...

Some people replace the hackle wing with mink tail.

That is one great pattern, and tie, by Mr. Wright. I'll bet some particularly stiff hackle would really make this caddis flutter?

As per your request, I've posted an image of an authentic Len Wright Fluttering Caddis that I photographed. I'm am in the middle of getting out of the pic hosting service I use. So don't be surprised if it vanishes soon!

welcome to the forum , seen your a new member , any chance someone can post a picture of this caddis or put a link up so we can see it , i use alot of caddis on the water i fish and i'm always open to seeing something knew to me , i just was guiding a guy from italy and he had some sweet stoneflys he tied himself , and in truth they did make a diff on the river that we fished on sunday

In my book, on page 36-- ( book that is mentioned and posted by Catskill John and Battenkiller in Collecting and Tying Classic Flies under the Topic :" Valla's New Book"--which see) there is an image of Wright's Caddis that is tied by him that I photographed. There's a bit I've written about Wright, too, in those pages.

Think that would be the Fluttering Caddis....there's a nice photo on the cover of Wright's book "Fishing the Dry Fly as a Living Insect" plus illustrations of how he tied it. A great fly and technique. Cheers.

I've long been a fan of this fly and Wright's fishing technique for the caddis. This year, my wife found me a mint copy of his book. A treasured gift!
The 2006 Summer edition of the American Angler has some good information on this fly.
I'll post some pictures when my camera comes back from the shop.
