I was perusing rodmakers on the net. While checking out the great looking rods by Ed Barder, I saw that he recommended an extruded double taper leader made in
Britain called a Leeda Profil, for heaven's sake. Anybody ever try one of these? What's the advantage of a double taper leader? They don't sell
these leaders in the States, but I am nevertheless curious about them.

I've been using 12' Fulling Mill knotless tapered leaders on my silk lines for the last 2 years - marvellous things that turn over wonderfully (no
interest!!! - just like them) and can be cut at the butt end to match the diameter of the fly line, and have tippet added at the other end to match the
fly/trout...I seem to end up cutting 4' off the butt end to match the tip diameter of a DT6 silk.

Here's the website - <a target="_blank"...

A.J. McClane gives several recipes for knotted double-taper leaders in The Practical Fly Fisherman (1975 revised ed.;
I don't know about the 1953 ed. The recipes are specifically for nylon monofilament rather than gut, so perhaps this is not found in the 1953 ed.).

I did not know anyone was making an extruded one. There was an article in Fly Fisherman some time ago by Bernard Beegle describing what he called convex
tapered leaders. They turned over nicely, and tended to land slack. They were also good for curve casts and that sort of thing. I used them for a while and
liked them. I think I got away from them when I started using furled leaders, but I'll probably try them again, now that you have reminded me. Here's a
formula for a 5x 9 foot...
