Thanks Darrell, I got to meet Phil only once in person (plopped down on that same couch!) and agree that he was the nicest of men. I still treasure my all of Phil/Art rod lists. Never could afford the short Grangers that Phil loved so much and always seemed to have so many listed. I did manage to buy a few rods of much lessor value.

ive had the pleasure of casting dwights leonard as well as one he made from it. both are excellent rods ,but the old guy has something truely special .It could be the cane or the tempering or the maker, I think its the cane used.A one in a million culm that just has more magic than any other.

Yes, I still have that old Leonard. I have fished it a few times and it is a one of a kind rod. I have attempted to duplicate it but to no avail. The rods I produced were very nice but they did not come close to the "Old Leonard". I will keep trying and maybe someday I will discover the mystery that makes this rod so great. I cherish it because of who introduced me to it and for the surprised look on peoples faces when they load it up.

I also enjoyed the walk down...

Thanks Harry, but I liked them small -- not all in photos are enamoured of what we do online all the time. I had no prior permission and decided to err on safe side.

One fellow got a phone answering machine about two years ago.

Thanks for that trip down memory lane Darryl. I met Phil years ago at Bob Marriotts back in the early 80's and always got his and Art's rod lists. Always drooled over the rods he had. He was a neat guy and a part of my education of cane rods.

We weren't there and we haven't done that. Not exactly.
