I picked up a Hardy Salmon Bougle MKIV 4inch weighing in at 9.5 ounces , that will split time with a Dingley 3 3/4 inch perfect on a Bob Meiser 13 ft. 567 spey rod . This is my first Bougle and im very impressed.

OnlyTrout - It has a fixed click check that works equally left or right. It can be tweaked by hand for more or less resistance. Tom Pavelka describes it pretty thoroughly on his web site: tjsbearden.com

I just received my third splendid reel from TJ's Bearden. It's the No. 1 model w/ gunmetal frame and bright ported spool, 2.75" diameter. Obviously it is a beautiful reel and looks pretty swell on my 3 wt Nunley. BTW, it arrived within 2 days of my placing the order.

that will be great , how you finding all the good stuff , bring over some of that other good stuff also and we will test it out on a ol bogdan , see how it works

i think saturday i'm going to go do some bird hunting up in the foothills and shoot me the odd spruce grouse , not very good eating , yet makes a wonderfull stew , and if i'm lucky i might even see the roo's that have been known to show themselves over that way , well to one person anyway

Don't do that! You know what will happen. Rich will like the stuff, then buy every can in existence (particularly pre-war cans), creating a Boeshield bubble. When the price goes up because he's cornered the market he'll sell off his inventory and start collecting some other brand...

never seen the stuff up here in canada , lots of us just use anti freeze , keeps em running better in the cold winters

I was able to order Boeshield T9 through my local bicycle shop. I imagine my spray paint size can is a lifetime supply and was about $20 IIRC.

Boeshield T9 after a vinegar bath on the advice of Bulldog. Regardless what is used, don't be overzealous when wiping down the reel when cleaning...

After the bearings were lubed up, I very gently and very carefully moved them back and forth in the cage to work loose any grit or metallic dust / flakes, wiping them often with a lint-free cloth, re-lubing frequently until all the gunk I could see with the naked eye was gone and everything was turning freely again. The vibrations...

[when I first checked this one out, all the examples I could find had type facing the opposite way - Hardy's Patent facing inwards and Alnwick facing out ]

what would you use chris for a reel that has the dry look , as a oil to just soak on , the bearings i use a light , i'd like to know what is good to use as a oil on the whole outside reel , one that won't take off leading , i heard gun oil works very good

me i thought your reel was a bit befor 1905 , but who cares as that is a great looking reel with all the bells on it , nice to see them logo's , you don't see that often i bet

The banged up one that was recently on the Devil's Playground looked to be very early, maybe one of the first produced or even a pre-production model. Assuming everything is correct and original on this reel--and I don't see anything yet that causes me to think otherwise--this one is right on the cusp of the new check, still has the oval logo, the dotted "Alnwick / Hardy's Patent" inscription, phosphor bronze bearings, as well as the alloy foot putting it just before...

wow , even better looking then i had thought , congrats as she's a gem , i think with that check and them logo's , earlly 1900's , but i'm sure if i'm wrong lots of guys will let me know , some will know for sure the year

I just added the reel on the right, a 2.75" Dingley to my tiny collection of small reels ...the other two being 2.5" Heatons. I seem to like small, alloy reels with yellow/ed knobs.
