Recently acquired this reel at an estate sale and don't know how to break it down for a cleaning. Built in 70's does not have spool screw(in the center
of the spool). Could someone please advise a neophyte?

Hold the cage firmly in your left hand. Place the fingertips of your right hand on the drilled face plate and twist counterclockwise. It may be stiff, but it
should start to turn. Keep turning counterclockwise until the spool is free.
