broken at ferrule |

I know this has come up before, but how do you get the (broken) bamboo out of a stepped tip ferrule? The blank was originally mounted with Pliobond and was
pinned.

Find out the properties of pliobond. At some temperature, below the melting point of the ferrule, the glue will fail...
ps: pliobond is solvent based, a little mineral spirits might dissolve the glue, but still watch the pin... asg

You could use a torch and heat it up a tad,,, that should char the bamboo that is left in the ferrule, and go from there, scarf the end and cut a new ferrule
station.

Knock the pin out first. The key to this is using a punch smaller than the diameter of the pin- hard to find. Put the ferrule on a vise slightly open so the
pin has somewhere to go when you knock it out, and go slowly and gently. The other suggestions above are all good.

Hi Guys, A #61 drill bit is what I use to poke out pins. It's .039 and the pins are .040. It's also what one uses to drill pinning holes. Enco,
MSC, etc. sell them by the dz. They're cheap and useful and break. Hence the dozen thing. 'V' block, drill press, Optimags, get crazy to get it
out. Drilling out it is a less than perfect solution. Jay Edwards
