You bet. Nine-foot 8-weights play a significant role in my fishing and I'm glad I need them. I'll make more 9-foot rods in the future.

I just finished a pair of 10 1/2 foot, 8 wt. steelhead rods. I have several 9 foot 9 wt rods.

I like also 9ft rods. However, it is (still) cheaper (ca. $200 to $2000) to buy them used compared to a custom build 9ft rod.
There is still a good selection of rods even from the best names (Payne etc..) out there. |

almost any of us in the northwest build a significant number of 8 1/2 and 9ft rods. steelhead you know....

thanks for answer i love longer bamboo i seem to be able to hold more or back cast i.e. false cast a lot more flyline with a 9 foot bamboo rod as compared to
graphite rod what do you think have trouble with loop control with graphite not so with bamboo

A couple of years ago, Gene Novak built a 12' Salmon rod for a customer that weighed almost a pound. The bamboo at the butt was an inch across. Take a real
man to toss that sucker for very long.
