Yes, the larger the "canvas" the more options become available. To my eye the NSDSL just looks too skinny on just about any cane rod. You can only imagine what a bear engraving a size 9/64ths ferrule is!

spey,
If it's made of metal I can engrave it. My rods are all custom made to order and I enjoy working with the customer to get just what they want. Here's the only cap and ring shot I have handy. It's from President Carter's rod (in explanation of the presidential seal).

Rockthief,
You're too kind. I just learned a long time ago that you're better off making use of your gifts in life than wasting time trying to fit in where others would have you.

Thanks bbamboo, David, and WatercolorMan. I love making these rods almost to the point of obsession and it's always good to hear that others appreciate them as well. nysguide, I'd love to have you down for a class next year. You might be happy to see that I just opened two new classes (#8 and #9 for the year) for

a quick update | #32 | ||
|
Just a quick update regarding our business, and specifically our rod making classes. We have now permanently moved to our new location in the Toccoa River
valley of Mineral Bluff, GA. This is the junction of north GA, eastern TN, and western NC, and is less than a two hour drive from the busiest airport in the
world. Our new location was built from the ground up specifically to serve our needs as a rod making, and teaching, facility. The new location allows for
twelve month a year tailwater trout fishing at our private river access, on-site accomodations for our students (each with their own private bathroom), and all
food and workshop facilities for six students at a time, all in a beautiful and private wooded location. Those who have been watching our classes will notice
that there has been NO increase in price, only an increase in the quality of our product. We hope that our customers will enjoy our new location as much as
we are!

I was fishing the Toccoa last Saturday and stopped by Bill's new place on my way out and it is really something special. He had six students sanding and
scraping bamboo strips, but half of them were getting ready to bolt for the day to go down to the river to do some fishing! Being an Oyster class alum myself,
it was fun sitting around the new rod shop drinking a beer and talking with the students. Nice place Bill, you took what was already a really cool thing and
made it even better!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I must admit that the best part of all, is that for the first time in my life I can make a ten minute walk down to the
river with my fly rod. It's a real treat to be able to fish a thirty minute hatch and be home for dinner. The caddis are starting to come off in good
numbers and I can hardly wait for May when the sulfurs start to put on their sunset show!

Bill, Is there some irony that your picture is next to an advertisement for Scotch whiskey?

I think the whisky just makes it easier to deal with another posed picture of a rodmaker pretending to stair down a strip of bamboo!
