Just yesterday ... a circa-70s Hardy CFO (with a Flea on its back) and a butter-belly brown who's thinking it's already October

Mark, I know the reel...very nice. What rod is being graced by it?

PayneRods wrote: That's one of my own build. It's my 7'6" 4 weight "Big Creek" taper. That rod was actually destroyed the following day when I tried to land a HUGE fish. The line was tangled around the rod and when I grabbed the fishes tail he went berserk and broke the rod and the leader. I'd happily have broken another rod just to have gotten a picture of that fish! Mark |

Good Lord Ron !!
I almost take for granted that when you post pics of fish from your local waters they will be nice, but that bass is a proverbial BEAST Nice Going......
Recent founder of the "Mark's Sanctuary for Wayward Bogdan Reels", a place where any Bogdan reel that shows up on the doorstep will NOT be discriminated against based on its color, age, size, or winding persuasion, and WILL be provided a safe and happy home for the rest of my days. |

Ron,
Whatever it was that your Medalist was singing must have been a pretty loud ballad...

the largemouth is 28".
She ran me into the backing twice. I had the butt of the rod jammed into my belly, so my belly would catch the reel handle and slow it down on 1 X R, and I was pinching the line between my fingers for the rest of the brakes. 3x tippet - I really did not expect to handle the fish but was delighted to retrieve my fly (size 8 cats whisker, of course)
this was sight-fishing to spooky moving pods - had to lead them by 12' or so because any motion or sound on the water and they bolted. I got out and finished my cigar, and was trying to tell me buddies how to fish them, and few caught fish, but no other behemoths. When I got back in right away I sight fished a 5-lb'er but was overconfident late in the fight and tried to turn her when I should have given her room

Mark's Rod | #113 | ||
|
Mark,
That rod has (had) all the makings of an excellent rod: beautiful flametone, nice hardward, understated wraps...and most importantly, it could present flies to take large trout. (of course, you the flyfisher is an important part of that function) Very Nice! |

PayneRods wrote:Thanks, Understated is exactly what I like in fly rods. I will have it's replacement finished soon. It's got one coat of varnish on it now. I just need to sand it down and dip it one more time then it will be done. But I'm going to fish it this weekend before doing that. You know to give it some UV exposure to fully set up the varnish.
Hope to have some big fish pics with the new one soon. Mark |

I finally got the film developed from this spring. Here is a couple of small watermelons. The bigger was taken on a 4" Perfect. The smaller one was
taken on a 4" Bougle'.
