If we could generate enough buyers, perhaps a Keneya or similar would make some.

Making a Meek 44 | #3 | ||
|
I'd be game to make some since I am free of Perfection Fly Reel. Has anyone dared to look at the inside of one? The sideplates and the pillars are simple.
Crank can be easily cutout. Click and knob are easy. I'd need some photos of the spool and the foot and if there is a free spool "deterrent"
inside. How much interest is there? Jon (info at Larrabeereels dot com)

Earl Shapiro? | #4 | ||

Wasn't there a guy by this name associated with Tim Zietak that was making them? They weren't cheap, but cheaper than an original.

Earl Shapiro of Pittsburgh, PA makes one. There is a picture of one on Tim's website. Al Medved told me he had a Shapiro reel and said it was quite nice. I
assumed it was the Meek 44 copy. Al may actually have a few Shapiro reels. You may want to contact Al if you have any questions about it.

Here is what I have come up with overnight... | #7 | ||
|
Here is what I have come up with overnight from old Bacon's and Lang's catalog pictures and the one on ebay now. It still needs some refinement on
proportions of the handle, screws and the circular engraving. I'll make up one in 6061 aluminum which is easy to turn and then go to 7075 aluminum; which
I can get a great polish on. I also think I have some 3/16" thick nickle silver but I am afraid the price point will be unmentionable because I'll be
able to get so few reels out of a 6x10 sheet even though they are small.
Here is the old Lang's version I copied except for the handle. I put the more classic handle on it though I like this one.

Jon, this looks like it has great potential! Are my eyes playing tricks on me or does the Lang's photo handle have a slight 1/2 S curve in it and the ebay
one have the straight handle as your drawings indicate? Did Meek make these with different stlye handles?

Tom, the Lang's one definitely has a combination "S" / Dumbbell (for lack of a better name) handle. Here is my interpretation. I think the
proportions are better for such a small reel with this one.
I'll keep at it. Jon |

I would even settle for a miniature, such an elegant, simple design. Hooray for tradition.

Put me down for one. I need it for one of my light line rods. I would go for the one on the unmentionable auction site but unfortunately I wind with my right

The "S" handle is referred to as a "dog leg" handle and it is what distinguishes a first model Meek 44 from a second model. The third model
has a raised back, whereas the first two models have what collectors call the "flat back".
A few first models have been found with jeweled caps, but they are incredibly rare. |
