Did Heddon have any system for their tubes? I thought Black Beautys came in black tubes. Some do some don't.

My Black Beauty has the black tube with the cap that seals with a rubber stopper when you twist the ring. My Blue Waters Featherweight has the same type of
tube and cap, but natural metal. My Thorobred has a natural metal tube with a regular screw-on lid, with a Heddon decal on the tube. My 115 Premier also has a
natural metal tube with a screw-on lid. So yes, they did have a variety of tubes.

My experience has been that Heddon, like many other companies went through phases of tube production... new models with new color tubes, tube colors that
matched model names (Black Beauty w/ black tube), tube colors that matched the primary wrap colors (# 20 w/maroon tube, # 35, 50, 1000 w/golden brown tube),
pre-war high end models with nickel tubes, plain aluminum tubes in certain years, and war production material shortages mandating certain models came in fiber
tubes, and fiber tubes for many lower end models throughout their production with a few in metal tubes just to mix it up. One thing I've never seen in a
Heddon, is brass capped tubes.

I agree with the above Heddon rods do come in many styles. The Black Beauty rod I have came in a black tube with rubber washer screw. Rod bags did vary as well
with models.
The best Heddon rod tube in my collection was for a rod other than fly. It is older and has a nice screw top with a wider diameter tube. |
