As far as I can see the top end British reels are continuing to rise in value (yesterday I watched an original, admittedly beautiful, Bougle make almost £2,000)
If you saw that one I'm sure you saw the 2 7/8" LHW Perfect as well? That sold for about the same price as the new Perfects do, lovely little reel. I'm quite sure that on the short term the older Perfects will keep their value much better then the new one's, especially if you fish with them. Is it true that 200 reels are produced in each size of the new Perfects both LHW and RHW? I recall reading it somewhere (maybe in here?) but can't seem to find that info again. If that's the case in 10 years maybe the new Perfects will do the same thing as the Bougle IV does now, being very much sought after but even less available?
Personally if I was to spend such an amount on a reel I'd try and look for one of those Dingleys or a Perfect like Wilfred posted, but I don't think the new reel either looks bad or believe it is a really bad investment in the long run. Who knows this will really be the last England produced Hardy? A point for the re(e)al collectors could be that this would be a reel they are more comfortable fishing with then the old style reels they already have in case they drop it or anything happens to it?

It's
not clear if that will happen with the new Perfect but I think it will hold its value at least and that's not bad if your plan is to fish it.
