I was referring to the Sears #115 and 125 in regards to presentation rods. Sorry for the confusion in how I wrote it.

Thanks to this section on heddon trade rods I have been able to ID an 8'- 3/2 - 1 1/2 - Ferule unmarked rod I have as a Lyon and Coulson Regent.
I also have a 8 1/2' Tom Hardy Rod built by Heddon in a 20 grade. I will post photos as soon as I can |

I own and fish an 8' Featherweight, built by Heddon and sold by the now-defunct prestigious sporting goods store in St. Paul, Minnesota called
Kennedy's. It says "Kennedy's 1500 by Heddon" on the shaft, in Cleo Hanley's unmistakable hand. It came with two tips, a Heddon label
tube, and a reel seat like those on a #20. Beautiful swelled butt. It takes a 5/6 Wulff Triangle Taper, or a Phoenix DT5 silk.

I have a #125 Expert 9' 3/1. Although still marked as a Heddon it was produced for Sears & Roebuck as was the #115 Premier. I also have two Weber
rods a #1603 Professor 9' 3/2 and one only marked as a Weber. The later I have on ebay at this time. I've just picked up a nice Edwards F7 and a 10
1/2' Leonard, so a few other rods will have to be sold before my wife sells me as dog meat when the next Visa comes in!!

More Heddon Trade rods | #68

I have just bought these two. one is marked Tom Hardy 8 1/2' 2 ferule.
The other is not marked but appears to be a Lyon and Coulson Deluxe or Regent. It is 8' 3/2 1 1/2 ferule a wonderful casting rod. There are an awful lot of snakes on this rod it appears to be original. Can anyone shed any light on this rod Richard

My opinion, but the second rod shown appears to be a rod that has been refinished. The lack of a hookkeeper, the lack of any inked identification,
and a wooden reel seat insert that I have never seen on a Heddon rod. Maybe added guides also? Most probably you will never be able to identify it without question. What patent no. is on the reel seat locknut? Anyway, it is one of Heddons best tapers and should be a most fishable rod. Bob |

Bob, I found in this thread additional Lyon and coulsons with the same reel seets and signature wraps..
There is a hook keeper it is just on the under side of the rod that isn't shown I am not sure how to add the photos from earlier in this subject but there are two rods that are identical. The reel seat has the same patent # as on my Jay Harvey Jefferson Rod another private label heddon rod built in a 35 grade. Mike Sinclairs book on Heddon rods also shows a cataloge for Lyon and Coulson that shows the additional guides on the rods pictured. Richard

#110 Sydenham split cane fly rod | #71
|
Hello , I have a #110 Sydenham split cane rod that my Dad gave me years ago .It in excellent shape , 3 sections , 2 tips . only needs 1 eye to be re tied . I
have not wanted to use it ,being afraid to damage it (seeing the 6 year old & 10 year old both Fly fish & would probably fight over who gets to try it
! better they stick with the glass rods) ) I believe my dad had it special ordered back in the fifties , It has pulled in many a speckle but not recently .
I will talk to him tomorrow & ask him all the details ! Where it was purchased etc . Please respond ,i would like to continue this chat . Perhaps i can
send a few pictures of the rod . sincerely Don

Last month I managed to find an Adolph Arntz "Special" 2F 8 1/2 ft rod. This is especially important to me as I remember huge Adolph stumping around
his sporting goods store in Muskegon, Mi when I was a young boy before WW11. He also outfitted my fathers hunting safari to Africa and his tiger hunt to India
in the mid 1930's. I believe this "Special" is equivelent to a Model 10. It is in good condition except for the finish. Hope to use alcohol and
save the wraps before refinishing. Arntz's shop was the meeting place when tournament fly casting was important in Muskegon. Hundreds of members
including Ed Swett, John Burdick and Harold "Dike" Smedley the 1943 and 1944 National Dry Fly Accuracy Champion hungout in that shop.

reelill,
I somehow must have missed your reply first go round. Your rod is definitely a very nice Heddon. I only stated that it may have been refinished in that all of the Lyon and Coulsen rods by Heddon I've seen were inked in some manner. As to the reel seat, I was only speaking to the wood insert. It does not appear to be Circassian Walnut, cedar, or gumwood. Not to say Heddon didn't use other woods, just never saw this particular wood. Again, a very nice rod! Bob Go Heels!!! |

fisherman!
I also have a #110 Sydenham (8.5' 3/2 6wt with a blue bag and cardboard unmarked tube, see my posts from earlier in this thread)! I bought mine a couple years ago from a dealer who had just purchased it from a fella in Ontario Canada. Don't know anything else about it, and no one else that I have talked to (including those on this post, folks at the National Heddon Museum, and other Heddon experts) has been able to tell me anything about it, so anything you or your Dad knows about them would be news to everyone. Yours is the only other one that I or anyone I have talked to has every heard of, though there are probably some more out there somewhere. It is a great rod by the way. I fished it through the Hex hatch this summer here in Michigan and was able to manhandle a 19" brown with it. Casts a nice line and can throw a wide range of fly sizes, from a big Hex (size 4) down to size 12. Looking forward to hearing more about the history of your rod from your Dad. |

Your correct Bob,
I think my rod is refinished also because of the lack of inking on the shaft. It is a wonderful 4wt. 1 1/2 F Rod. Richard |

I seem to be a little late with my rods, but I do have a few. Nice to here about the Arntz Family.
I have a few of the trade rods. First is the Arntz Supreme, 8.5' 2F. This is the smoothest caster of the 6 rods in this size I have. This is a 4/5 the others seem to be 5/6. It really comes to life with a 5wt Silk line.
Here is the 1510 Folsom 8.5' 2F 3/2 6wt With the chrome plated all NS "Hold-tite" reelseat, which I really like. I saw in Michael's book that this design wasn't well received, but I think the design is elegant.
Next is the 8'-6" Heddon Trade Rod L&C Capitan 3/2 2F 6wt. This rod came from a family that owned a Sporting goods. This one showed up with the cork still wrapped. So I guess I'm the first owner and user.

Pics below ( I hope..first pic post), are of a Jay Harvey Lincoln, Heddon made. Rod is in excellent condition but I don't know if it's been
reconditioned or original. 9' throws a beautiful 4 or 5 wt and holds 50' of 5et forward in the air with ease. Tube is original but no sack.....George
