Hi all,
I've been a member of the forum for a few months, but only just noticed this thread. The members here have been most generous with their advice and responses to my questions. Thanks a bunch. Reading through some of the entries here reminded me what a small world it is. Spruce Grouse and others mentioned Oneonta, NY. I have a camp (a former one room school house) in a tiny place called Worcester in Otsego County, not far from Oneonta. I am a project manager for a general contractor in central New York. I build mostly institutional stuff, schools, colleges, nursing homes. I have 2 beautiful daughters (5 and 12), both of whom love to fish. I live in a small town called Chittenango, about 15 miles east of Syracuse (go Orangemen !!). There is a pretty good little trout stream that runs through town, and several more not far away. |

Working as a fireman in downtown Seattle, WA, at a 100 yr. old firehouse a few blocks from the Pike Place Market. Married happily with two little boys, and
we live in a nice town called Bellingham about 70 miles north of the city.
I always appreciate the help I get along the way, here in the forum and elsewhere. In part because I don't have the money or the space or demand to
justify bevellers, and in part because I absolutely love hand planning with good music playing, I make my hands entirely by hand and take pride in that
(however....I can't say I would turn down a beveller if it landed in my lap |

New to this great site. I am a AZ state trooper but a fish bum by heart. I was very lucky to have a super dad that was a die hard fisherman. He gave me a
fly tying vise at age of 7 and never stopped the addiction. Been in the Fly Fish'n biz a little until I put my feet into a set of duty boots. Was lucky to
work with manufactures that make our fun toys. Still mess around but a 7 and 3 year old get my time now. The worlds greatest fly tying room is now a pink room
(until she starts tying!). Grew up fishing in the unknown Grand Canyon and Marble Canyon. My favorite fishing holes are the Frying Pan a a little known
creek here in AZ. Hope to meet you all on the water some day.

I'm lucky to be a recent hire at a small science and engineering firm addressing water quality issues in northern New Mexico. I've been a student for a
long time (too long - still trying to finish a graduate degree) and have been lucky enough to work in fisheries and hydrology for a handful of agencies where
my "office" has been the mountains and rivers of NM. A lot of my colleagues are fly-fishers and we swap fly patterns and get time off to hit the
rivers and streams when it's good, which makes the new "career" a little easier to swallow.

Hello from Vancouver, BC! I'm really a prairie boy from SW Alberta, readjusting to life in Vancouver where I'm doing a Master's degree at the
University of British Columbia - Library and Information Science, which really just means librarian.
I set out on a rambling three week road trip through Montana and Idaho last August, what a fine time, and my first trip to waters I've read about since I was 12 (I'm 34). I avoided the fly fishing industry organized pre-planned experience, and just let the trip develop on it's own. I was treated so well by people I met along the way: other fisherman, ranchers, fly shop clerks, the lady selling coffee at Ernies in West Yellowstone, you name it. So, I'm fishing the west coast, which is brand new: different fish, which I hear run larger than anything I've seen yet, different rivers. But at the same time it's just fishing: wade in and give it a go. I really should have introduced myself already. I'd like to thank the wise, erudite, and witty people I've chatted with on this board for over a year now. My hats off to you for making this a great site! Cheers, Mark |

Hello, My name is Joe Douglas and I own and operate Black Dog Tackle & Custom Rods outside of Orofino, Idaho which is in north central Idaho on the

OK, my turn. New to the forum, or should I say, I was very active on the original Clark site many moons ago and have recently returned. What a change. My name
is Brad Norgaard and live in Phoenix. Grew up in the midwest and had never seen a flyrod or anyone flyfishing until I moved out here in '79. Joined a local
flycasting club 15 years ago and have been adopted as the bamboo guru of the club. Had been an administrator in post-secondary education college for 20 years
and was laid off in June '08. Now work at the Scottsdale Orvis store. Guess this means I need to get a few Orvis bamboo rods to add to my collection.
As a way to help support my much-needed-by-me lifestyle, I also do architectural rendering, illustration and graphic design however these economic times have really caused a slow down in the demand for such services. I also have restored and use frequently a 1959 Airstream TradeWind travel trailer. Fishing vintage bamboo and traveling in a vintage trailer just seem to go hand in hand. Glad to be here and active once again. Brad FF

Hello All!
I've been lurking for quite a while and enjoying the heck out of this site. Figured it was time to join up. I work as a Senior GIS Program Coordinator for Hartsfield Atlanta Airport. I head the team that maps and tracks all the utilities. Before this I was gainfully employed by the US Army for 23 years as an Engineer warrant officer (again, in the mapping and surveying field). While I go to work my wife and my youngest daughter, and most of my money, go to the University of Georgia. The Mrs. is working on her Masters in Math Education and the daughter is majoring in partying, football games and the Redcoats Marching Band. The oldest daughter graduated from Georgia State and is a state juvenile parole officer (oh, the tales she tells!) I've been fishing all my life, but the last time I fly fished was back in New Jersey in 1969! A co-worker and good friend re-introduced me to fly fishing about 6 months ago and I have not looked back. While I have been out a few times for trout, the waters near my home are teeming with hungry bluegill and bass, so that is what I focus on right now. After losing too many flies to trees/rocks/stumps/poorly tied knots I decided it was time to roll my own. Most evenings I can be found behind my vise trying this pattern or that, stocking up for spring. Good to be here! |

I figure I should introduce myself. My name is Jason and I'm a 35 year old father of 3 girls(12, 10, and 10 months). I live and work in Hillsborough, NJ. I
am a technician at a small electronics manufacturing plant.
I have been tying flies since I was 8 or 9 and flyfishing since I was 12. I am not exclusively a flyfisher, I use casting gear to fish the surf(although I have been flyfishing there more as well). I have been making bamboo rods for almost a year, but I've wrapped(or rewrapped) rods for a few years. I have made all of my own tools for this hobby(with the exception of the planes) and make most of my own components(except for guides but I'm working on that). I haven't made any reels yet but I'm thinking about it(I've made enough replacement parts for the ones I own that I might as well). If I could figure out how to braid lines I'd do that as well. I also have made a few boats and a bunch of wooden surf lures. The main reason that I try to make everything I use is that I really can't afford to buy quality tackle and the only way I'm ever going to have any is if I make it myself. It's also a challenge to see if I can turn out half decent stuff with limited resources. |
