Question for the experts, did Walt make any reels with a diameter greater than 2.72" ?
Would this reel fit an 8 foot 5 wt Carpenter rod?
Thanks,
Chris

sounds just right to me - if it's about 1-1/8" between the spool plates, it should hold a DT5.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

The carpenter & casey reel came in 3/4" and 7/8" spool, the 7/8th will take a 5dt with little backing - the 3/4" was made for a 3/4 line-
the W.E. Carpenter rod company reel came in two spool sizes also the wider one will take a 5dt with more backing. I use a 7/8" C&C ported reel on my
8' 3/2 #5 browntone.

If you do get (have) one, I recommend applying a dab of Loctite to the handle screw. Just sayin'.

Won't hurt, either, to put a dab on the screw holding the post on which the pawl pivots, if it's a C&C.

I'm not sure which generation Carpenter or C and Casey reels Walt made himself (or assembled himself), nor have I seen any bigger than 2 3/4" dia -
the one I owned I could get a DT4 on but not a DT5... I believe it was the wider of the two available at the time....

These don't get much play in the US either, not sure where they are/were made - glass and graphite, but no cane that I can tell. |
