I recently place an order for an 8'6" 4 wt. from Jim Reams.

A 7'6" hollow-built 2/2 is almost at the top of Chris Carlin's 2009 build list.
I may opt for a little stronger taper, however. Or I may change the order to a quad. Decisions, decisions! Flyman

After making and repairing rods for everybody else for the last eight months, I can see some time to make for myself a 14', 9wt, 4 piece, hollow spey rod.
This rod has been on the drawing board for 4 years now.
I also see a 10 1/2' hollow 8 wt two handed generation two, steelhead rod for myself. The prototype is good but the second generation is great. Maybe I will just go down to the lathe and turn out a few "Round-Tuits". Happy Thanksgiving to all, fishbum |

I very recently finished a conversation with Chris C. and fine tuned a decision on a 7'9" hollowed 4wt. It's funny not actually casting a
particular rod before you put in the order. I've not done that before and goes against everything I've understood I need to do before a
purchase.
I have found I'm more than just a little particular (notice I didn't say picky...) towards a lot of rod prefs. from the action to the finish and all cosmetics so this is not typical. I'll let you know.... Jeremy. |

Kermit, you might try Dave LeClair on the check. Also, I did a rod a while back with the Pearsalls hot orange tipped java brown and it turned out gourgous, I
think a bright yellow would also look nice. I didn't use color perserve straight spar on medium flamed cane.

As for rods on order - my next rod is a South Creek - AK Best Signature (to join my Gierach Signature and Special Tapers rods). If you've not yet
experienced a rod built by Mike Clark, I can only say that they are incredible rods built by incredible people!
As for rods on the look out, if I ever find a Per Brandin quad for a "reasonable" price - I will not hesitate. |

A Chris Carlin 7'6" 2/2 4 wt FTS hollow-built and a 7'9" 4 wt penta Sweetgrass are the two rods that are currently in the final stages of
being completed in my pipeline. After that, I am only a couple of rods away from having a complete quiver, if there ever is such a thing.

Bamboo market | #31 | ||

Well, it looks as if the bamboo fly rod market is in pretty good shape, what with all these fine rods on order or up and coming.
Chris Carlin seems to be a very popular builder these days. Most others have a serious waiting list. Monty Montana, I would really like to see some photos of Mr. Howell's 8' 1 piece rod, when and if you have it in your possession. I'm still studying and saving. Right now a Dave Male 7' 9" 3 piece rod is at the top of my list. Bob Go Heels!!! |
