hi - i have an old 9' heddon 3 piece bamboo fly rod that i have been unable to identify .... i would be grateful for any information you could offer.
(model, weight, when made, what are the extra pieces ....value? .... etc.) i will attempt to post photos. thanks, michael
this rod measures exactly 8'10" assembled, it has 3 sections, the butt section measures 37" - is marked on the cane with only the spiral "heddon" signature and on the ring at the reel seat "pat. no. 1624052" - although the cork is dirty there appears to be no damage to it - the reel seat is made of, i believe, dark tenite ..... almost black with some pinkish and grey flecks - the guide on this section is silver with a red plastic ring inside.
the middle section measures 35 7/8" with a ferrule diameter of .275 in. o.d., and the tip measures 35 1/4" with a ferrule diameter of .175 in o.d. the guides are wrapped with dark red silk and the female part of the ferrules are black.
there are 2 additional tips one with a "loose ring" end.that measures 30 1/2" with a ferrule diameter of .175 in. o.d. and is wrapped with dark green (almost looks black) silk - and red at the ferrule and tip - the other tip is missing the ferrule but measures 32" and is wrapped with the dark green and red at the tip.
there is an additional grip with no markings and appears to have a wooden core and is wrapped in string and varnished - it has a sliding reel seat and a female hole of ..... nominally .275 in i.d. - but i am using calipers so this may not be absolute.
the rod came in an olive colored wrap, with no tag that i could find ....... and a hard black tube marked "keuffel & esser co." which i believe may be a blueprint tube. overall i would say this is in very good condition - with the exception of the missing ferrule on the one tip.
here are some photos that may be helpful and i may have missed something so ask me if you need more info.
again ...... grateful for any help.
sincerely, michael
