I'm slowly but surely plodding away on the restoration of a Gene Edwards rod that was made for a Cleveland store. I've been working on removing the
old finish, and I think I'm going to be able to save all but one of the wraps. The rod is solid and complete, but the finish was so rough. Most of the
snake guides reflect the aging of the rod, and they are quite corroded - here is one of the worst:
My initial plan is to use emory cloth to get as much of the corrosion off as possible and then do some sort of polishing. I think I can work some narrow strips of the emory cloth through the interior of the eyes and under the exposed part of the feet. Does that sound like a decent plan? Any suggestions as to how I should proceed with this clean-up?
When I get the whole rod restored, I'll do a little write-up of the history as I know it - it's kind of cool.
Any help/opinions/suggestions are truly appreciated. Thanks!
