Nice, Corcut. Good luck with the gray ghosts -- they're a blast on bamboo.
I've had this Dingley Perfect for two or three years but for some reason had never used it until today -- I hooked it up to a Goodwin Granger Deluxe 8642 and had a pretty good time.

Gentlemen,
Thank you very much for the comments. Very inspiring to this novice photographer. Here's some new ones from the weekend.
Got this guy with one of my custom graphite rods and a Galvan standard. While not a classic, it sure is a sweet reel to fish with.

Warrick, thanks!
Here's a few more from this weekend. I made a new handle knob, but it wasn't as special as the original so I glued the old one back together. Who knows how long it will last, but it sure looks nice.

Does this J.C. Higgins reel count as a classic reel? I was holding out trying to find a J.W. Young but kept losing them on the unmentionable auction site and
broke down for this one. It does its job and I'm proud of it. My first old reel on of my own rods.

broke this rod in the other day.
30s FE Thomas Special with my 3-1/8" Allcocks Stockbridge
My goal was to catch a wild trout in my tailwater, the southernmost trout fishery in the US. I waded 2-1/2 miles upriver to an isolated section, where there should be no stocked trout under 18" or so, and my friend had reported catching 3" fry 5 months ago. I caught a fat, silvery rainbow that was 8" long and 3" tall. I didn't photo it, but quickly released it without lifting my net out of the water. The photo of that little guy could never be as impressive as my memory. But here's the spot.
the rods are never obsolete - the marketing is.

testing an EVH clone | #199 | ||
In late February of 2007, rod builder David St John and guide Ben Collier drifted Alaska's Kenai River to test a Perfection Fly Reel Co prototype based on an original from its collection. The original Edward vom Hofe is one of only three known raised pillar aluminum #360 reels known.

gmreeves wrote:Thanks for posting the photograph of your reel with your built rod. They look like they were made for each other. I had a couple but sold the two years ago. When I see a 35 on a nice rod I just have to sigh. Those little things just keep on fishing. WOuld you tell us more about your rod? It appears to have some neat features. Paul |
