T&T Reels? |
Lead | ||
|
I'm currently collecting & fishing older Hardy's, Young's and Meek's and some newer classic reels. Now, I'm considering collecting some
T&T reels since IMHO have always dealt in quality. Were their reels made by quality makers? Who were they? Did they ever make their own reels? Any models
to avoid? I appreciate all comments and would welcome pics of your reels.
Thanks, Dennis |

I don't think T&T ever made their own reels, but they did have reels made by some quality makers. Don't know what they called the model, but they
did have some very nice S-handle reels made by Joe Saracione. They were basically identical to his SCA (Saracione Classic American) series.

I owned one of those some time back, and it was a wonderful high quality reel. There were others by other makers as well, I believe. I don't know that they
ever made a reel themselves.

T&T has had a bunch of reels with their name on them. Some were made by Joe Saracione, as already pointed out, but others were made by Bill Ballan, Regal,
Ross, the old H. Hart reel company from New York, and a reelmaker in South Africa (their Hampshire models were made there.) They also made a couple of their
own reels if you expand that concept a bit. Lon Deckart (sp?) owned T&T for quite some time, and I guess he still does for that matter. He also owned a
machine shop in Ohio somewhere (I think it was in Cincinnati) and at least two of their models were made there. That would be the Large Arbor and the Avatar. I
think a previous model, called the High Performance, might have been made there as well. Frankly, none of these reels received much marketing effort so none
sold all that well. Most are well done, with the T&T version of the Regal reel being a much better and more thought-out design than the original and so
most are reasonably collectible. I'll probably think of a few more as the day goes on.

The T&T Classic offered in the 80's that was a Ross Gunnison with their markings. I feel the Gunnison is the best reel Ross has ever produced.

Stunning reels, great quality at an amazing price (saw the 4/5 reel at a special for something like $60). PS. I believe they were also made for the Australian Felty label. |

Does anybody know who made the T & T Kosmic Commemorative in the 1980's as part of the limited releases by Dorsey, et al. I almost bought one but the
weight was enormous. Kinda wish I would have bought it now. Thanks
