Per takes special care to match the tone of insert to the tone of the cane and wraps to match.
He also makes among the nicest all cork, double ring, with just a neat little wood butt cap.

Creaky,
Nice little bit of a rod you have there. I have a love for these little, light-line rods for my little spring creek trout. Your rods' handle is a perfect shape for my likes and that cork is top notch. Man, how I'd love to cast one especially since you mentioned the fine tips. And the workmanship is splendid. That means a lot to me and I look for it. Congrats on a real keeper. Jeremy. |

HERMES2069 wrote: When I cast that rod (one of Per's personal rods) this summer, my only descriptive word was "Symphony." I think it is absolutely the ideal rod for the Henry's Fork. I hope my recently acquired Thramer hollowbuilt 8' 2-pc for a 4 comes close. Based on lawn casting, I think it will. Congratulations on that one! It's a gem. EP |

Wow! Rod #031 is the 31st rod made for sale after the purchase of Orvis by D. C. Corkran in 1939. It was probably made in 1940, and is the second oldest
Jordan-era rod I've come-across since becoming interested almost 30 years ago. It's a keeper to say the least...

Phil,
very good pictures and marvelous rod. Please, are the short ferrules truncated ferrules or shorter custom made? Thanks Marco |

Marco,
The ferrules look to be custom. The truncated ferrules I have use, from CSE, are a little longer. Phil |

More on those short ferrules | #1131 | ||

From Per's site: "Because of the geometry of the section, the six strip hollowbuilt rods will be lighter than a similar hollowbuilt four strip rod. To
further accentuate this lightness, I employ specially made Swiss-style micro ferrules which are extremely short and light. Use of these ferrules also gives the
rod a feel very close to a one-piece rod." They are indeed very short, just a little over 1 inch, put together, from the end of the ferrule tabs on one
side to the end of the ferrule tabs on the other side. It's a little disconcerting at first--like bamboo ferrules--until you get used to them. C

Thanks Greg. Got the rod to fish.
It looked so different I thought it was a commemorative issue or a kit rod. Saw the old tube style "Bronze with female threaded cap early in the data base and thought maby?... No way. After I picked it up I saw your post on the 2/2 Orvis in the appraisals section with a rod looking very much like it and, WOW very cool! Now I'm not sure about fishing it. ??? Darn dillema! Again thanks for sharing. Will be taking it to Manchester later in the winter. Should it be redone or left alone? Bob. |

Bob, The tube is original and I believe the bag is too. The rod appears to be in good condition and I would leave it as found if that's the case--they're
only original once. IMO, there's no reason not to take it fishing if the ferrules, cane and varnish are sound. There are a lot of forum members fishing
far older rods.

Just received an 8040 and 9050. Combined with my 8642, it's becoming a collection! And a really fishable collection at that. Spring is just around the
corner, right?

Hello everyone! Just bought a new rod from Rick's Rods. An Orvis Battenkill Flea 6'6" 4 weight 2 pc. ( description at Rick's Rods cant upload
pictures here yet still learning) The rod is all I expected and more. Very anxious to take it out to a local stream that is full of Rainbows in the spring.
Have snow lawn cast it with a no 4 wf sharkscin and it preformed beautifully. Happy New year everybody! Tight lines Uwe
