Maxwell Binder and beveller |
Lead | ||

Hi Guys I am new here and have been reading a ton of posts about making Bamboo rods. I was wondering if Maxwell has a web site so I can see the Binder and
Forms and any other items he makes? Thanks in advance. Paul

I talked to Forrest for over an hour yesterday. He has been ill and it has slowed his production.
His # is (503) 585-6667 , he can answer all your questions regarding his equipment. Art |

Forrest Maxwell's Beveller | #4 | ||
|
Forrest's company is the Three Rivers Rod Shop but unfortunately he does not have a web site. I can assure you first hand that you will not find a better
set of forms. The Wagners are excellent as well and IMO the only ones that come close in the amount of workmanship you will see in his forms. They are all
surface ground and a true work of art. I have never seen his binder but it is along the lines of the Wagner. Call Forrest he is very out going and informative
and a no nonsense kind of stand up guy. Gary

I can e-mail you pictures of the beveller, just send me an e-mail jlrupp@sbcglobal.net. The price on the beveller was about 2,300 I do not know if that has
changed, it's about the same price as the hand planer's friend.
As far as forms go, I spoke with forrest a few days ago, his forms go for $750 for the non-swell version, 100 more for the swell version, and they come with a dial indicator and base. I saw his forms in his shop in August they are really nice equal to anything else I've seen out there. Good luck, -John |

Guys Thank you all for the information! I have another question for you if you don't mind, its regarding the kind of Plane for the planning forms, do you
really need an adjustable mouth plane? I have a couple of the Lie-Nielsen #103 planes and love them, would one of those work? Here is a link to ones I have,
http://www.lie-nielsen.com/catalog.php?grp=1221 Thanks again Paul

Ray They sure are great tools, but I would be afraid to use them. Paul

Paul,
Having an adjustable mouth on your block plane is very helpful, especially when you get closer to your final dimensions and you want to get really fine .001" shavings. The LN planes are really nice, but a Stanley 9 1/2 ( or knuckle 18) works just as well.
