Posts: 160 01/04/2009 01:46	Tags : None So I am probably a year or so away from actually pulling the trigger on a purchase but I was wondering how you go about buying a drift boat. Can you take it for a test run like you would a new or used car or do you just get what you like at the best price, buy it, take it to the river and go with it? Also, I've been eying the Sportsman's Drifter from Hyde because I like the idea of being able to haul it in the pickup bed, especially for still water fishing. Does anyone have any thoughts on this model that they'd be willing to share with me. Feel free to PM me on product reviews if that is more appropriate. Thanks in advance! Matt

Posts: 175 01/04/2009 10:04	Matt, Not knowing where you live, I can't talk for the dealer's or builders in your area. All I can tell you is how I started. I met and old man that I had fun fishing with that had an old boat and he taught me to row (best thing that ever happened). Then he gave me and old wood boat to learn on my own. Then I got a used Fish Right. It did its job and got me on my way to guiding. Over the years I got to row just about every make out there, then one day at a sportsman show I ran into Marty Sherman with Clackacraft, I talked with him about boats, but of the glass boats I had run they where all squerly on the water. He offered to bring one down (to southern Oregon) to let me test run it on my home water the Rogue. I am now on my 4th one. (no they don't where out, they just have great guides program). I have talked to Matt Hyde at a lot of FFF shows and he is a great guy, and I am sure he will help you get a test run. Glass boats are more forgiving when you hit a rock, (and trust me you will hit them if you spend any time on the water) they are warmer, and they don't stick on rocks. Posts: 110 01/04/2009 13:17	most drift boat companies will get you hooked up with testing a boat. your can rent boats from different places as well. my suggestion is if you have a fishing club near you talk to them and offer to go with them and row you probably will get alot of takers. i am friends with the guys at clacka and hyde as both of them are in my home town. both will do you well. i purchased the hyde xl pro series last year and it is a wonderfull boat.

Posts: 34 01/04/2009 15:39	After looking at alot of different boats, I would also recommend Hyde. I purchased a 2008 Singature Series and it's a great boat ! very well made. Make sure you know what your getting when you order it. after a small problem with my dealer, Hyde fixed his mistakes. Good luck.
