Hello all. I've been using Pac Bay snakes for most of my rod building. They are just okay. I'd like to know what you folks think of Hopkins &
Holloway, Perfection, and Snake Brand.
Thanks,
J.

Hi Guys, Ummmm, yes, those are my favorites depending on what I'm using them for. I spoke with The Snake Brand guy on the phone several years ago about
guides and tackle business stuff. I asked what guide company was the best, set the standard, had the most consistent quality or whatever. He said Perfection.
That was a pretty leading question and they made a lot of different guides. But it seemed an honest answer. However, Snake Brand has raised the bar I think.
They go on my best rods. Jay Edwards

In the following order; Snake Brand Perfection Pacific Bay, unless you're going to use the titanium carbide snake guides, which are better than Perfection. Hopkin's and Holoway is not on the list at all, I've had to return more of them than I was able to use. I don't bother with any others any more, I use Snake Brand exclusively for my snake guides, from a rodmakers standpoint they are so much easier to deal with because the feet are always the same length and never need to be ground that it is just not worth bothering with anyone else's. They cost a bit more , but are well worth the extra. john |

By far I would rate the Snake Brand as the best. In my research, I found that Snake Brand black nickle guides were less expensive than the competitions TiCH
which is similar in color. The Snake Brand consistency from guide to guide is about as good as it gets. Snake Brands wire size is perfect! Not too heavy not
too fine. On a side note, I had a request from a client to build a rod using Hopkins and Holloway chrome guides. To my surprise, all the guides were shipped on
shrink wrapped cards that had Fugi written everywhere. It is my understanding that Fugi bought out H&H, and quite frankly, removing the guides from the
shrink wrapped cards was a pain in the rear, not to mention a huge waste of cardboard and plastic!! A single 2/0 snake guide was placed on each 2"x3"
shrink wrapped card!

That might explain why REC no longer offers Snake Brand guides...
